7 reasons to choose Hong Kong for meetings and events

Hong Kong is an ideal MICE destination

Hong Kong is a unique destination for meetings and events. Whether you’re looking for an exciting exhibition space, impressive meeting rooms or an incentive travel destination that will inspire, Hong Kong’s wealth of world-class meetings, incentives, conference and exhibitions (MICE) infrastructure has something for everyone.

1.      World-class MICE infrastructure

Land comes at a premium in a territory that is only two thirds the size of London. Its unique skyline makes good use of vertical space, which also results in an interesting take on venues’ meeting and event space.

Many of the hotels across the territory have their own state-of-the-art meeting and event facilities, from lavish ballrooms to modern minimalist meeting space.

Hong Kong is also home to a number of purpose-built conference and exhibition centers, including the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. It boasts a seating capacity of nearly 4,000 in its Grand Hall. Elsewhere, the Asia World Expo, positioned adjacent to Hong Kong International Airport, can accommodate a huge range of options with theater-style seating for up to 14,000.

2.    Cultural experiences

Hong Kong – a special administrative region of China – blends its history with modern, high-end shopping centers and ultra-fine dining. Celebrate its history at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, which houses more than 900 priceless artefacts.

Aside from the Palace Museum, Hong Kong is home to 15 museums, each with a unique focus from Chinese ink art to Cantonese opera, science to railways, traditional folk farming to space. Plus, Hong Kong’s history in film is celebrated with its own museum and various other attractions throughout the administrative region, including a statue of Bruce Lee overlooking the harbor.

Your delegates can enjoy soaking up this rich culture, either as part of an incentive or in downtime between your meeting and event activities.

Many of the museums also have private hire options, suitable for corporate events. The Hong Kong Palace Museum, for example, has spaces available to hire for festivals, exhibitions, meetings, seminars, banquets and film screenings.

And the Hong Kong Film Archive can also be hired for film screenings, but also has a 200m2 exhibition hall on offer too, offering flexible options for events.

3.      Luxury options

For VIP meetings, executive incentive trips or high-end team building, Hong Kong makes a suitable backdrop.

Five-star hotels offer a range of accommodation options and house incredible restaurants. One example is the Langham Hong Kong, home to the three Michelin-starred T’ang Court, in addition to luxury spa and wellness centers.

There’s also five-star accommodation at the Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Shangri-Las, Grand Hyatt, Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons… the list goes on. Plus, with 77 Michelin-starred restaurants there’s plenty of fantastic options when it comes to food.

There’s no shortage of incredible event venues to treat your guests and attendees, and Hong Kong’s high-end retail outlets also offer a great way to unwind in downtime for those looking to shop.

4.      Style selection

The Eaton provides an alternative setting to the five-star properties, with a cool, laid-back vibe. Offering a range of shared working, meeting and event spaces, the Eaton is also home to an underground food court, serving a great selection of food and local craft beers from a range of vendors. This includes Yat Tung Heen, serving Michelin-starred Cantonese dim sum.

Furthermore, Hong Kong has an abundance of properties providing a more contemporary experience. The Cordis, for example, offers 655 rooms and suites across 42 floors as well as four restaurants, including the Garage Bar with its alfresco dining area and the Michelin-starred Ming Court.

5.      Abundance of activities

Hong Kong is a visually stunning blend of natural beauty and architectural design, making it ideal for MICE travel.

From relaxed harbor tours taking in the iconic Hong Kong skyline, to a hike – or tram ride – up to Victoria Peak for a bird’s-eye view, the destination’s scenery provides a backdrop for meetings and events that delivers a real wow factor.

Take a trip to Tai Mo Shan waterfall or, if you’re looking for a more active team-building day, there’s plenty of opportunities to zipline, abseil or sea kayak.

Hong Kong is also home to one of three Disneyland resorts in Asia, an exciting incentive venue for thrill-seekers, that also provides a range of meeting space, conference, team building and corporate banqueting options. There’s also the chance to organize private access to the park for your group.

6.      Vibrant nightlife

When the sun goes down, Hong Kong takes on a new vibe with nightclubs, live music, rooftop bars and markets bustling with life, long into the night.

The districts of Lan Kwai Fong, Wan Chai and Mong Kok are both vibrant, bustling areas that provide a range of evening entertainment. Don’t miss the Symphony of Lights, the world’s largest permanent light show that illuminates Victoria Harbor. Enjoy these either from dry land or aboard one of the various night cruises available.

Bain Capital Executive Assistant Shenade Mora attended a recent Reed & Mackay fam trip to Hong Kong and speaks highly of its offer as an events destination. “Hong Kong is an amazing city with so much to offer in terms of hospitality, food and experiences,” she says. “It is the perfect destination for a business trip.”

Looking for a dual destination? Combine a trip to Hong Kong with neighboring Macao

7.      Twin with Macao

For a real contrast in culture and activities, combine a meeting or event in Hong Kong with a visit to neighboring Macao.

With a main “strip” reminiscent of Las Vegas, Macao has a wealth of high-end hotels, restaurants and activities. In addition to the bright lights of the strip, Macao has a bustling historic old town.

Check out Macao Tower, a 338-meter-high convention and entertainment center with various high-level activities. Enjoy an amazing view from its handrail-free skywalk or take part in a tower climb up the final 105 meters to its 338-meter peak. For those looking for a real adrenaline rush, it’s home to one of the world’s highest bungee jumps.

“Hong Kong & Macao are the perfect twin-center destinations for events,” Reed & Mackay Senior Global Client Success Manager Events Mat Browne says. “This dual destination offers a perfect balance of cultural diversity, rich history, luxury hotels, premium restaurants, shopping and entertainment.

“You can travel from Hong Kong to Macao by car in 90 minutes over the world’s longest bridge, via ferry in one hour or, for added luxury, a helicopter takes only 15 minutes. It offers a range of hotel sizes, with some boasting up to 4,000 bedrooms and event spaces for up to 16,000 people. And it’s impossible not to have fun in Macao – it has an extensive offering, including the TeamLab SuperNature experience, climbing the Macau Eiffel Tower, witnessing the Changing of the Guard and many international shows.”
