Supporting business travellers with visible and hidden disabilities

As we celebrate the start of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, it’s a timely reminder that one in six people now live with a disability, according to the World Health Organisation, while the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme – which operates in a number of countries including the UK, USA, Australia and Canada – estimates that 80% of people with disabilities have a non-visible disability.

Many people with disabilities will travel, whether it’s for leisure, business or international competitions, at some point in their lives. And everyone’s travel deserves to be as stress-free and as accessible as possible.

Travel should be as accessible as possible for everyone

Do travellers with disabilities have their needs met in the way they should expect when they travel? Or does the travel industry still have a long way to go to ensure their journeys are as seamless as possible?

Reed & Mackay’s first report in its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Thought Leadership series – Supporting Business Travellers With Visible and Hidden Disabilities – aims to tackle these questions.

Is the business travel industry doing enough to support all travellers?

Read the report to find out where key industry stakeholders believe the sector can improve the travel experience for everybody. Hear directly from business travellers with disabilities about their experiences. Take a look at what the travel industry is already doing to improve journeys. Uncover ways to help meetings and events delegates with disabilities. And learn where travel management companies can improve duty of care for travellers with disabilities.

Reed & Mackay’s Thought Leadership series is designed to start discussions around key issues and topics affecting the business travel sector. Read our second DEI Thought Leadership on How to better support LGBTQ+ travellers as well as previous Thought Leaderships on Rethinking travel management as climate change intensifies Part One and Part Two; and Blockchain in travel management: the emergence of a new tech era?
