Event Paralegal

Reporting to: DIRECTOR OF LEGAL

JOB PURPOSE:

This office-based role in the legal team will work closely with the R&M events team to deliver key assistance to the legal team and drive efficiencies across the legal function. This role involves contract management, some contract review and negotiation with clients and venues, and monitoring and liaising with all departments across the business. The team at present is incredibly busy, so this is a real opportunity to get involved in numerous areas of the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing legal support across the business.
  • Assistance with drafting of a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documents
  • Working in line with client contract riders as appropriate.
  • Working directly with conference, trade show and exhibition organisers on client sponsorship contracts.
  • Initial point of contact for ad-hoc legal queries (through the management of a contract management system) and ensuring that requests are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Assistance with photocopying, scanning and general administrative duties when required.
  • Organisation and compilation of files for legal matters.
  • Analysing contracts and drafting letters.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the legal department from time to time including ad-hoc research.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We’re looking for a diligent individual with energy and enthusiasm who takes pride not only in generating ideas but in practical delivery and continuous measurement. You will enjoy diving into data, be results driven and busy and agile in your approach to getting the job done. You’ll be keen to dive into working with our fast-paced Events Team on supplier contracts, particularly relating to event sponsorships, and event venues.

  • A paralegal with a keen interest in Events.
  • Experience of corporate due diligence and supporting on commercial transactions.
  • Proven ability to work in a client-centric, deadline driven environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness and commitment to exceeding expectations and delighting internal and external clients.
  • Proactive, outgoing and solution/goal oriented.
  • Self-motivated, and can operate with varying levels of supervision.
  • An ability to quickly understand, adapt to and operate within your client’s business culture.
  • A working knowledge of (or interest in developing) processes and technologies that can enhance the delivery of legal services and help accelerate solutions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Law degree (or equivalent)
  • Contract management experience
  • An understanding of commercial awareness with a willingness to develop
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude and a team player who would like to develop as a lawyer or is keen to be a career paralegal
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Office suite – particularly Word

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 6 months‘ experience (preferred) working either as a commercial or corporate paralegal in a city law firm or large corporate or financial services organisation.
  • Some knowledge of GDPR and Data Protection laws
  • Completion of LPC or BVC.
  • Some contract review and drafting experience.
  • Experience in events management
  • Some knowledge of GDPR and Data Protection laws.
  • Some knowledge of company secretarial matters
  • Project management skills.
  • Knowledge of contract management best practices.
  • European languages, especially Spanish, a bonus.
