This will affect individuals entering the US on tourism\/business visas and work visas from non-waiver countries. Visitors from\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/url.uk.m.mimecastprotect.com\/s\/pNq8CoYWns4AYmVcrfltpgZlU?domain=esta.cbp.dhs.gov\">Visa Waiver Program<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0countries will be exempt.<\/p><p>CBP may request electronic device access. CBP indicates that\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/travel\/cbp-search-authority\/border-search-electronic-devices\">\u201cless than 0.01 percent\u201d of international travelers had their devices searched<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in 2024.<\/p><p>Travelers from visa waiver countries or with visas\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/news\/privacy-technology\/can-border-agents-search-your-electronic\">can be denied entry<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0if they refuse access to their devices.<\/p><p><strong>TIP:\u00a0<\/strong>If concerned about sensitive information or data privacy, work with your IT department or consider have travelers download sensitive information to a device left at home during their trip.<\/p><h3>Additional US entry restrictions \u2013 what travelers need to know<\/h3><p>As of January 1, 2026, there are full entry suspensions for citizens from:<br \/>Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Mali, Niger, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, as well as people with documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.\u00a0<\/p><div><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">There are limited visa suspensions for citizens from:<br \/>Angola,\u00a0Antigua and Barbada,\u00a0Benin, Burundi, Cuba,\u00a0Dominica,\u00a0Gabon,\u00a0Gambia,\u00a0Ivory Coast, Laos,\u00a0Malawi,\u00a0Mauritania,\u00a0Nigeria,\u00a0Senegal, Sierra Leone,\u00a0Tanzania, Togo,\u00a0Tonga, Turkmenistan, Venezuela,\u00a0Zambia, and\u00a0Zimbabwe.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Exemptions include: US lawful permanent residents, travelers with valid US visas issued prior to June 9, 2025, dual nationals using non-restricted passports, and certain humanitarian or diplomatic travelers.<\/p><\/div><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Europe<\/strong><\/h2><h3>EU Entry\/Exit System (EES) \u2013 latest updates<\/h3><p><a href=\"https:\/\/travel-europe.europa.eu\/ees\"><strong>The EU\u2019s Entry\/Exit System (EES) launched on October 12, 2025.<\/strong><\/a><\/p><p>This automated IT system, capturing biometric data, registers travelers from outside of the EU or Schengen Zone every time they cross an EU external border. This data collection will be\u00a0<strong>gradually introduced at border crossing points with full implementation by April 10, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p><p>It will also monitor if the traveler is staying within the rules of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/eu-entryexit-system\"><strong>Schengen visa entry and exit rules<\/strong><\/a>. Non-EU passport holders can only stay 90 days within 180 in the Schengen area. Longer stays will require different visas depending on where they are traveling to and from.<\/p><p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/travel-europe.europa.eu\/en\/etias\"><strong>implementation of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will follow in the last quarter of 2026. The ETIAS will be an EU equivalent of the US ESTA, will\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etiaseu.com\/articles\/etias-delayed-2026\"><strong>cost \u20ac20 (approx. $23 USD) and be valid for three years<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0or the lifecycle of the passport (whichever is first).<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><br \/>UK and Ireland<\/strong><\/h2><h3>Entry into the UK: Electronic travel authorizations<\/h3><p>Starting\u00a0<strong>February 2025, 2026<\/strong>, the UK\u2019s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/url.uk.m.mimecastprotect.com\/s\/85Z1C76qyuOGQBLuWh6CoR9H9?domain=response.smartwebportal.co.uk\">Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0requirement will be strictly enforced. ETA is a legal requirement, and carriers will not board eligible visitors without one.<\/p><p>From this date, everyone (except British and Irish citizens) wishing to travel to the UK will need a permission to travel. Wherever possible, the permission will be digitally linked to the passport being used. This must be shown through an ETA, eVisa, other acceptable physical proof or an exemption. The fee for an ETA is\u00a0<span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW59155815 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW59155815 BCX8\">\u00a316 (approx. $21 USD).<\/span><\/span><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><br \/>China<\/strong><\/h2><h3>Expanded visa-free access to China<\/h3><p>Nationals from 48 countries (including Argentina, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia)\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visaforchina.cn\/SYD3_EN\/tongzhigonggao\/265975107544027136.html\">can now enter China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, tourism, or transit.<\/a><\/strong><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><br \/>Duty of care tips for international travelers<\/strong><\/h2><ul><li>\u200bEnsure possession of a valid passport (6+ months), an approved and valid\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/esta.cbp.dhs.gov\/esta\"><strong>ESTA<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/visa-information-resources\/forms\/ds-160-online-nonimmigrant-visa-application.html\"><strong>visa<\/strong><\/a>, and relevant travel documents (itinerary, tickets, boarding pass).<\/li><li>Confirm visa type permits planned activities (tourism, business).<\/li><li>During travel, carry copies of entry documents and comply with visa limits.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does this mean for business travel in 2026?<\/strong><\/h2><h3>Increased planning<\/h3><p>Visa processes are becoming more time-consuming. Companies should start applications earlier.<\/p><h3>Digital transformation<\/h3><p>Systems like ETIAS, EES, and UK ETA reflect a global shift toward biometric and online pre-clearance. Travel managers should integrate these into booking workflows.<\/p><h3>Cost implications<\/h3><p>New fees may mean higher upfront costs. Budgeting for visa-related expenses will be essential in corporate travel planning.<\/p><h3>Compliance and risk management<\/h3><p>Stricter entry rules and tracking systems (e.g. EES) may increase the risk of non-compliance penalties.
