{"id":56034,"date":"2024-06-27T14:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reedmackay.com\/?p=56034"},"modified":"2024-06-27T14:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T13:00:00","slug":"how-to-better-support-lgbtq-business-travellers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reedmackay.com\/au\/how-to-better-support-lgbtq-business-travellers","title":{"rendered":"How to better support LGBTQ+ business travellers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Reed &amp; Mackay has released the latest report in its Thought Leadership series \u2013 and the second in a series on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) \u2013 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.reedmackay.com\/supporting-LGBTQ-travellers\">on how to better support LGBTQ+ business travellers<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/sites\/default\/files\/ct\/news\/documents\/2023-05\/Ipsos%20LGBT%2B%20Pride%202023%20Global%20Survey%20Report%20-%20rev.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nearly one in 10 adults across 30 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia identify as LGBTQ+<\/a>. However, in a survey last year by security specialist World Travel Protection, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesstravelnewseurope.com\/Management\/Business-travellers-still-being-affected-by-negative-behaviours-\">14% of travellers had felt the need to hide their own sexuality or seen a colleague hide their sexuality on a business trip<\/a>. And, one in 10 travellers said they had even refused, or seen a colleague refuse, to travel to countries with anti-LGBTQ+ laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elsewhere, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcamag.com\/asia\/specialisation\/diversity-inclusion\/employers-told-to-strengthen-support-for-lgbtq-business-travellers\/493905\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Opinium survey of 1,000 United States and Canada business travellers revealed that only a few employers provide LGBTQ+ rights information<\/a> on the countries they are visiting. Additionally, while a poll of European travel buyers showed a growing number of corporate programmes were now providing special consideration for LGBTQ+ travellers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesstravelnewseurope.com\/Management\/More-travel-programmes-cater-to-LGBTQIA-travellers?oly_enc_id=9041J0857312J9V\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">it also showed the community remains among the least-provided-for travellers in corporate travel programmes<\/a>. And that was despite there being a growing awareness among travel managers as to their specific needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisations have diverse workforces. So the research above highlights that the LGBTQ+ community requires an enhanced duty of care programme if travelling for business. In addition, this need becomes increasingly significant as generations move through the workforce. Specifically, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/peoplepopulationandcommunity\/culturalidentity\/sexuality\/articles\/sexualorientationageandsexenglandandwales\/census2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gen Z is the the age group most likely to identify as LGBTQ+<\/a> and increasingly expects an inclusive culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.reedmackay.com\/supporting-LGBTQ-travellers\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"806\" src=\"https:\/\/reedmackay.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/TL-Front-cover-1024x806.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55952\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reedmackay.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/TL-Front-cover-1024x806.png 1024w, https:\/\/reedmackay.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/TL-Front-cover-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/reedmackay.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/TL-Front-cover-768x604.png 768w, https:\/\/reedmackay.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/TL-Front-cover.png 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So how can the travel industry better support LGBTQ+ business travellers?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.reedmackay.com\/supporting-LGBTQ-travellers\">In this Thought Leadership<\/a> Reed &amp; Mackay aims to generate further discussion on how and where the travel industry can better support LGBTQ+ travellers and acknowledge the complexities the community faces.
